Q1: My trainer said I should do steady-state cardio to burn fat during my workout, since bootcamps are anything but steady-state, why are you promoting them as fat-burning?
A: Your trainer is right!! If your goal is to only burn fat "during" your workout, then steady-state is the way to go. But if you think about it, why should burning fat "during" your workout really be what you're after? After all, when you lift weights to build muscle, we all know that you don't get much actual muscle growth "during" the workout, but rather it's a 24 hour process that builds muscle. And the same goes for fat loss. Read more...
Q2: I'm not sure if I'm in good enough shape for a bootcamp? How can I tell?
A: You will be able to work out at an intensity level that is specific to you. I will push you, but I will always respect your limits. If you have pain in your joints, injuries, or suffer from any type of muscle problems then I would suggest booking a fitness evaluation with me personally. This evaluation would be done separately in my private training studio. If you're really not sure if you're fit enough to do the bootcamp, I strongly suggest you speak with your primary health care provider to get the OK.
Q3: I really want to workout hard, but my knees don't take all the running done at bootcamps. Will I still be able to get up enough of a sweat without running?
A: While there will be some running, most of it will be very slow as you will be either dragging a heavy sled or tire, or you will be carrying heavy objects which significantly reduces your speed. I would say fast walking is required, but that's it. So very little impact if any. And my bootcamp is on soft grass, so it is definitely friendly on the knees.
Q4: What sets you apart from other boot camps? Basically, why should I join yours when there are so many others to choose from?
A: The truth is, you can get in great shape with any exercise program if you give it 100% effort. One of the biggest reasons people don't give 100% effort is boredom. When the exercises are the same old ones your old trainer at the gym used to have you do IN the gym, then it's going to be tough to give 100% when you were really hoping for something different! Additionally, when it's boring, it's easy to find excuses to skip the class. Let's say it's raining one morning. If you feel like it's so boring in class, you're going to skip it for sure. But not with Your Beach Body Boot Camp! I can almost guarantee a 100% attendance even on a rainy day!
I specifically chose the methods I use at Your Beach Body Boot Camp because i've done them all and I can honestly say that they kick my butt so much, and I just keep wanting to give them 100% effort because they are so much fun. You will see! I promise you! In fact, I'm so confident that if you don't absolutely love Your Beach Body Boot Camp and find the exercises to be both the most challenging you've ever done and very motivating, allowing you to consistently give 100% effort (the requirement for success), then I'll give you a complete refund of all your money.
Q5: I've only ever exercised by myself, and the idea of exercising in a group is a bit intimidating to me. Will I fit in?
A: You will be exercising with other people who are in the exact same boat as you. Many will be overweight and self-conscious, so with the concept of acceptance as one the foremost elements of Your Beach Body Boot Camp, many times you will be paired up with a partner. In some cases you will have to work together, which is important for learning teamwork, and at other times you will work against each other which is important to help you learn to put yourself first (which many overweight people never do, they always try to help others even at the expense of their own health). Q6: I'm severely overweight by more than 100 lbs. Will I be able to exercise safely?
A: As always when there's any such question, an OK from your doctor is a smart first move. But if you're otherwise clear to exercise, your physical limitations can always be worked around. In fact, I'd say you need Your Beach Body Boot Camp more than anyone else! This program is designed to help you shed bodyfat more quickly than traditional forms of exercise, and all of the exercises can be safely modified to anybody's particular requirements.
Q7: I already workout at the gym. Won't this make me over-trained?
A: As a professional strength and conditioning coach, in all my years at different gyms, I've only seen a couple cases of real over-training. To over-train means that you basically have to be training with such a high intensity and volume that continuing to do so will eventually lead you to burn-out or injury.
In fact, Your Beach Body Boot Camp is the perfect fat-loss complement to a good strength training program done at the gym. Building significant strength requires lifting heavy weight, which requires significant rest between sets. For this reason strength training doesn't by itself lead to optimal fat loss. Although it is part of optimal fat loss through it's muscle building properties. Your Beach Body Boot Camp is a type of metabolic fatigue training which plows through a ton of calories in a very short time, and causes a significant eleveation of your post-exercise calorie consumption. Basically you will be burning significantly more calories for up to 24 hours after you finish the exercise.
Q8: Do you have any nutritional recommendations to maximize my weight loss if I join?
A: A balanced diet is always the best recommendation. Because each person is somewhat different, what works perfectly for one person may need to be adjusted to work well in someone else.

Q9: I'm already in great shape. I'm a real athlete. Will I really get something from this? I don't want to waste my time.
A: HAHAHAHAA... sorry... no seriously... It doesn't matter who you are, your conditioning level will significantly improve, not to mention the completely different nervous system activation of the exercises we do. In fact, for athletes, Your Beach Body Boot Camp will be the best cross-training you can possibly do!
Q10: What kind of changes to my body can I expect?
A: You can lose up to 2 lbs of bodyfat per week. Of course, as I've said before, it's impossible to out-train a bad diet. So if you're a nutritional disaster, then the number may be less. If you read Q8, and successfully implement my top 8 nutrition rules for weight loss, you'll definitely be closer to meeting the 2 lb upper limit. Read more...
Q11: Do I need to bring my own equipment?
A: The only thing you need to bring other than appropriate attire for exercise is gardening gloves or work gloves. Some of the exercises may cause blistering on your hands without the use of gloves. (No you won’t be raking the yard!)
Normal attire would consist of proper cross-trainer shoes, shorts or exercise pants, t-shirt, and sunglasses if you like.
